When one of Bruce Ellion’s clients told an Atlanta-based realtor that he heard a buzz coming from his walls, Ellion broke his cast to look. He expected it to be the pipes or the electrical system that made a strange noise. Instead, Ailion was shocked to find several new inhabitants – thousands of bees.
Homes often make noises: the floor creaks, the pipe creaks, the refrigerator buzzes, but while some sounds are harmless, even charming, others are early signs of potential problems that require attention.
“Every time something happens to the house, like to your body, you have to think about what it could be,” says Eylion, who has decades of experience diagnosing strange conditions at home. “Pay attention to how they work, they sound normal. If you hear a change, it may indicate a problem. ” Here are some potential breakers.
The noise of the stoves
There are a number of sounds you can hear from the stove, says Ailion. If they are unusual և permanent, ask an air conditioner specialist to check them. “If you need clarification, it’s not that expensive,” he says. “And if the noise has just started, you can help prevent more serious or complicated repairs later.”
In fact, he says checking the stove every six months will not only help your stove run more efficiently, but it can also help prevent some of those noises. Most importantly, he says, if the stove has been unplugged for several months, you want to make sure there are no cracks in the heat exchanger, as this can lead to a dangerous leak of carbon dioxide. In the meantime, keep an ear open for the following:
- Crunch or creak. This may indicate that the engine bearings have been lubricated or that a piece of them has broken. Ignoring this could result in engine failure.
- Knock. Over time, the fan և the box around it may move or tilt, and the sound of the shock may be the fan cutting the box. (It may sound like a rotating washing machine that is out of balance.) Over time, it can damage the entire system.
- Pour. This could be a sign of moisture in the pipeline or a blockage in the pipeline.
- Jumping. On more common older systems, this is the sound you can hear when you turn on the stove. It can be caused by rust: rusty metal or soot from the chimney.
- Whistling. Whistling may occur when the filter becomes dirty. Ailion recommends cleaning or replacing the filter at least every three months to help the stove run at maximum efficiency.
Breathing և noisy pipes
Anyone who has ever lived in the heat of a radiator knows how noisy pipes can be. When it does not leak properly, the steam radiator can make horrible noises, such as someone knocking from the inside. First, make sure the radiator inlet valve is fully open, as partial opening may cause some noise. If the noise persists, the US Department of Energy proposes to put veils under one side of the radiator so that excess water can flow back into the pipe or trap.
If your boiler knocks, your circulating pump may leak. Contact an HVAC specialist.
Wall Creaks & Skittering on the walls
Sounds from your walls և upstairs, creaking, buzzing և other sounds can mean that something is living in your home that is not part of your family. In addition to bees, Ellion says, “Raccoons, squirrels, and birds are known to enter the attic and make noises.” Of course, mice and rats can do the same.
If you hear something, look for something unusual on the outside of the wall. If you do not find anything but the noise continues, consider setting a trap or calling on the destroyer.
If your dishwasher vibrates or grinds, something may be stuck in the cutter blade. A buzzing refrigerator may indicate that the compressor is sick. A drying dryer can mean that something is in the wheel of its blower. These conditions are difficult to diagnose without expert attention, according to Ailion, so as soon as you hear the sounds, think about calling a specialist.
Effervescent և Noisy pipes
Over time, sediment builds up on the bottom of the water heater as the minerals get out of the water and settle in the tank. Accumulation of excess sediment can cause a puncture or rumbling, which should be your signal to call a repair specialist. Depending on the severity of the problem, washing the inside of the tank may be enough to fix the problem, but it may also be time for a new heater. In any case, this is not something you want to ignore. Fixing it can prevent water leakage, says Ailion.
Whistling noises in the windows
Improperly installed windows, weather wear, temperature changes պարզ a simple passage of time can cause unwanted whistling inside the house. Not only sound noise but his alertness and dedication too are most required. If you can not find the source of the whistle yourself, consider hiring a specialist to find or fix the problem.
